"Carema is a fairly small appellation in Turin, producing Nebbiolo at altitude. The valley basin suffered from drought in 2017, however the vineyards are located on terraces at around 750 metres above sea level and their proximity to the mountains guarantee a good amount of rainfall almost every year. This Riserva is delicious on the nose, full of violet and iris, intense red currants and a slightly stony minerality in depth. The tannins are slightly chalk and the acid firm; a wine more on the bones than on the meat, yet balanced and overall elegant."

"The 2017 Carema Riserva is a touch forward in profile, but that's not a bad thing at all, especially for readers looking for a wine to drink now. Sweet red cherry, mint, tobacco, dried herbs and orange peel show the gentle mellowing of a Carema that is entering its early plateau of maturity. Drink this over the next handful of years." 

Winemaker Notes: 

"Carema Riserva is a still, dry red wine that glows in the glass with its beautiful pale garnet color with an orange edge. It starts with a medium intensity nose of tobacco, bittersweet chocolate, hibiscus iced tea, coffee vapor, raspberry, pomegranate, and licorice. In the mouth, it is richer than the non-reserve Carema, with an added oak element. The finish suggests cherry and bitter Seville orange."
