The focus of our wine department has always been on providing the best selection of wine at the lowest prices possible. Wine Buyer, Barry Herbst, is a thirty year industry veteran who is a judge at a number of prestigious wine competitions and co-hosts a local radio program focusing on the Sonoma County Wine Industry.
Our unique position here in wine country enables Barry to source out the best deals on hard to find local wines, some of which may be not be available anywhere else in the world! In addition to working with local distributors and wineries to cull out their best, Barry focuses on building one of the most impressive collections of imported wines in the North Bay.
Meet The Buyer
Barry has more than three decades of experience in the wine industry, ranging from sommelier and wine shop owner to high-level retail and private cellar acquisitions. He was raised in Southern California, where he earned his stripes in some of LA’s most celebrated restaurants, among them Chinois on Main and Osteria Angelini. Most recently, Barry was General Manager of the Rare Wine Company in Sonoma, as well as working with Soutirage and Bounty Hunter Rare Wine & Spirits in Napa Valley. Currently, he is the wine buyer for Bottle Barn in Santa Rosa, CA, a 15,000 square foot superstore and arguably has the largest and finest selection of fine wines north of San Francisco. Barry blames a bottle of 1980 Jayer Vosne-Romanée Cros Parantoux for having sent him down the rabbit hole many years ago. Today, he lives in Petaluma, CA with his wife, two children and Australian Shepherd, Elvis, to whom he happily dedicates every spare moment outside of work.

Bottle Barn’s Got The Good Beers?…Oh Yeah!!!
Meet The Buyer
Traveling to Europe as a young man taught beer buyer Zach Shelton respect for the history and tradition that goes in to brewing. Being a native of the hop indigenous Sonoma County has bridged the gap between appreciation for old world and more hop prominent styles. Joining the Bottle Barn team in 2007 he has been gracing the county with a selection to satisfy the casual drinker to the connoisseur. After nearly 10 years of buying for “the barn” Zach is in tune with what the customer is looking for and stocks a selection that will remind you that it’s not just wine country. While not at work he can be found enjoying the beautiful outdoors of Sonoma County with his wife and three boys and probably enjoying some cold suds. Prost!
Greetings! The Bottle Barn Spirits department carries on the stores’ tradition by offering more choices at better prices. Through extensive tasting and education we have put together an unbelievable selection of spirits. Featuring products made locally, as well as from across the globe we are trying to supply you with what you want most.
Meet The Buyer
General Manager and Spirits Buyer
Jason began working for Bottle Barn in December of 1997 and managed the store for three years before moving to the northwest to pursue a degree in enology. With a year of classes and a harvest at Covey Run Winery in Washington State under his belt, Jason returned to manage the Bottle Barn in the summer of 2001. By 2006 he took over the buying duties for the spirits department. Over the past decade the department has grown and continued to add the best in craft spirits, large distillery staples and rare and hard to fine products from around the globe. Jason lives in Santa Rosa with his wife Laura and daughters Lucy and Vivian and enjoys music and sports, as much as, he does a nice stiff drink.
We feature an enormous volume of glassware, wine and beer accessories, and wine country gifts. Everything for that special someone!
