La Poderina is located in Montalino in the area of Castelnuovo dell'Abate well known for the particular elegance and balance of its wine.  This storied estate has help from superstar consulting winemaker Riccardo Cotarella who is quite famous in Italy.  He is revered as "Il Mago" or "The Wizard" and is one of the most influential wine personalities in the world.  Despite lavish praise from critics, La Poderina keeps a low profile.  Vinous called them "one of Montalcino's best kept secrets".  Robert Parker wrote they were "one of my favorite Montalcino properties . . . the house style is exuberant and flashy, yet the wines boast impeccable balance."  The 2017 La Poderina Brunello di Montalcino is rich, full-bodied and full of pure and beautiful fruit.  It has an intense and concentrated nose.  This Sangiovese has flavors of dark cherries, wild berries, dried raspberry, vanilla, cedar, sandalwood, licorice and oregano.  The tannins are firm and polished and melt nicely in the wine.  Enjoy!

James Suckling, 94 Points

"Plenty of dark cherries, cedar, sandalwood and licorice on the nose. Full-bodied with firm and polished tannins that nicely melt into the wine. Pure and beautiful fruit. Give this time to open. Better after 2023."

Wine Advocate, 92 Points

"The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is characterized by some of those same earthy notes of crushed limestone and baked clay that we saw so clearly in the other two entry-level red wines released by this estate. Wild cherry and dried raspberry cede to oregano, basil or balsam herb. However, overall the fruit intensity is faded. The tannins are on the dry side, and perhaps the heat of the vintage reveals itself there with greater clarity. This wine is best served in the near term."

Winemaker Notes:

"Ruby red color with garnet notes. Intense, concentrated nose of black cherries, wild berries and vanilla. On the palate it is rich, full bodied, quite tannic in youth, soft and persistent."

Alcohol: 14.5%
