Gabutti Boasso has been family run since it was founded in the 1970s and has stayed true to family traditions. Franco Boasso considers his majestic Barolo an extended expression of his family. This small artisanal producer is located near the grand cru Gabutti vineyard which it is named after. It is one of the best Barolo subregions. The vineyards of Serralunga d'Alba are a certain part of the Barolo DOCG that is generally considered the reference zone for the best expression of this majestic wine. Here Boasso produces traditionally made Barolo that is quite beautiful. The 2018 Boasso Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is sumptuously rich and full-bodied with good structure and surprisingly easy drinkability. It's nicely balanced with a long finish. It has notes of red ripe fruit, sour cherry, mint, and spices with a mineral character. Enjoy!
James Suckling, 92 Points
"Nicely balanced, young Barolo with ripe red fruit and mineral character. Full-bodied with a good, firm tannin framework that needs time to settle. Not really complex, but well structured for 2018. Drink from 2024."
Winemaker Notes:
"Barolo Serralunga has a beautiful, intense ruby color with garnet reflections and a complex and persuasive nose with touches of overripe fruit and spices. In the mouth it manages to admirably combine the sumptuous richness of its structure with a surprisingly easy drinkability; the finish is long and commensurate, just warmed by an excellent alcoholic strength, the glycerine persuasiveness of its expression is a fleshy sour cherry, with a sweet, intensely minty nose."
