"The Mugneret-Gibourg Ruchottes is an extraordinary wine with a laser-like focus to the bright blackberry fruit with notes of violets, earth and smoke. The texture is compact and chiselled but very dense, with firm tannins and an impressively persistent saline minerality on the palate. The grapes are from the domaine's 0.70-hectare parcel in Ruchottes du Bas; they are destemmed and gently fermented before ageing in cask (70% new). Give this five years before opening; the ultimate ageing potential is likely 40 to 50 years."
Vinous, 95-97 Points
"The 2022 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from the lower tier of the vineyard on soil with a lower bedrock than Roumier and Rousseau’s. Matured in 70% new oak, it conveys a vivid image of the sea, or more accurately, an estuary on a a cold winter’s day. Just a touch of brine tinctures that black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black cherry and bilberry fruit. Again, there’s a strong marine influence: pitted black olives and briny notes towards the long and elegant finish. It’s not the best I have tasted from this vineyard, but it’s a seriously fine Ruchottes nonetheless."
