For decades Vacqueyras has lived in the shadow of its neighbors, Gigondas and Chateauneuf-du-Pape. It's one of the newest appellations in Southern Rhone and called Southern Rhone's stealth appellation.  It's known for providing excellent value alternatives to Chateauneuf-du-Pape and is even referred to as Chateaneuf's Little Brother.  For years, the region has played second fiddle to Gigondas, but things are changing.  Vacqueyras is the next big thing.  Their wines have a diamond-like quality to them with a careful juxtaposition of power, brilliance and finesse.  Vacqueyras wines continue to fly under the radar, but this is likely to change soon as Rhone lovers discover the value offered by this region that produces powerful, well-structured wines.  Vacqueyras wines are robust and rustic in style combining delicate aromas with intense fruit and a bright, crisp texture.  These are wines packed with a lot of amazing character that won't break the bank.  Underrated (and in most cases, happily underpriced) Vacqueyras is an appellation whose wines, at their best, can rival top-notch Gigondas and Chateauneuf-du-Pape.  The 2022 Domaine La Ligiere Vacqueyras Le Mourre de la Caille is medium-bodied and nicely balanced with ripe tannins.  It's rich, fleshy and fresh with a long finish.  The nose is rich and complex showing aromas of black fruit.  This Rhone red has flavors of plum, cherries, ripe strawberries, Provencal herbs, flowers, roasted coffee and pepper.  Enjoy!

Jeb Dunnuck, 90-92+ Points

"Mostly Grenache, the 2022 Vacqueyras Le Mourre De La Caille is deep ruby-hued and offers a solid perfume of ripe strawberries, cherries, sappy flowers, and Provençal herbs. It's medium-bodied, has a nicely balanced, elegant mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish."

Vinous,

"The 2022 Vacqueyras Le Mourre de la Caille is a Grenache, Mourvedre and Syrah-based blend.  It is entirely concrete-aged and displays black cherry and plum aromas with peppery hints.  Soft tannins caress the palate.  Moderately concentrated and fleshy, it finishes brightly."

Winemaker Notes:

"Red dark cherry color with violet tint. This wine has a rich complex nose with black fruit fragrances, completed with roasted coffee and licorice overtones. The mouth is at the same time rich and fleshy, fresh and well constituted. The finish is long, with cherry and peppery aromas with little tannins."
