Until the 2015 vintage Les Hauts de Husseau was called Rémus Plus. This is a blend of five single vineyards in the northern part of the Montlouis appellation where the majority of the vines are between 70 and 90 years old, planted on thin flinty soil over limestone. The oldest vines, however, date from 1912. These three 2019s perfectly illustrate the importance, especially in a hot year, of picking at the optimum moment and having a very large team of pickers to harvest as quickly as possible. The 2019 has a fine balance of vibrant fruit and racy acidity with an attractive texture. Currently less expressive than the Clos Mosny it has a delicate tension and a long finish. Very good potential to develop and to age for at least two decades. (JB)

It's not Mont Blanc, but Les Hauts de Husseau is the highest point in the Montlouis appellation (at 90 meters in altitude), and so the local limestone is close to the surface, which is palpable in the chalky texture and fine line of the 2019. It comes from a cold site that's picked around a week and a half later than the domaine's other sites, but boy, is it worth the wait. It’s a little closed compared with its stablemates, but this is an exciting wine with underlying power that goes on and on, offering excellent distance. While there are subtle custard apple and crème caramel characters (likely a result of fermentation in old oak and extended time on fine lees), this is a wine whose most intriguing aspect is its texture and structure. There’s no hurry to drink this one.

This mouthwatering white integrates power with finesse, displaying yellow apple and mango notes infused with salted butter and ginger details. Elements of spice, honeysuckle and mineral chime in through the long finish.
Winemaker Notes:
"Crisp apple, blossom honey, and a subtle note of grapefruit zest on the nose. Juicy and penetrating on the palate, offering lively orange zest and orchard fruit flavors along with hints of anise and honeysuckle. Very pure and focused."
