Lirac is the most underrated appellation in the Rhone Valley.  In 1947, it was granted status as a "Cru" in the same category as the famed Chateauneuf du Pape.  Lirac lies nearly due west from Chateauneuf, on the opposite side of the Rhone River.  It is essentially the other half of the Chateauneuf du Pape.  Chateauneuf is famed for its soil and the heart of Lirac is matching some of the Chateauneuf soils.  Lirac can be produced at the same level as Chateauneuf.  But the region is tiny in comparison, which is why it's known as Rhone's undiscovered cru.  Lirac is considered a Chateauneuf du Pape look-alike.  If you're a fan of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, but don't want to spend a fortune on a bottle, Lirac is a great alternative.  Few Rhone Valley producers have the history and pedigree of Ogier.  The family name dates back to 800 A.D. when "Ogier the Dane" settled in France, though they only entered the wine business in 1859.  160 years later, Ogier is one of the leading producers in the Rhone Valley.  Their wines are an ode to finesse, elegance and freshness.  With centuries of winemaking expertise and land holdings that date back generations, Ogier can maintain almost unbelievable levels of quality at extremely reasonable prices.  The 2018 Ogier Lirac Lou Camine Rouge is one hell of a value and shows why so many Chateauneuf-based producers are setting up shop in Lirac.  It's lusciously textured, effortlessly fruity and approachable.  It has notes of cherry, raspberry, blackberry, plum, violet, leather and mild spices.  This red is elegant, silky, lush and creamy with Chateauneuf-style power.  It has attractive tannins and a long finish with a hint of vanilla.  There is no better value in Southern Rhone.  Enjoy!

Wine Advocate, 90 Points

"One of the firm's more consistent offerings, the 2018 Lirac Lou Camine is a medium to full-bodied wine with a lush, creamy mouthfeel and a peppery finish that successfully accents the red-fruit flavors of cherries and raspberries."

Wine Enthusiast, 90 Points

"This pretty Grenache-dominant blend stands out for its glorious violet and lilac perfume. Lusciously textured and packed with dazzling blackberry and plum flavors, it's an effortlessly fruity, approachable sip framed by a softly tannic finish. At peak now–2023."

Winemaker Notes:

"The 2018 Ogier Lirac "Lou Caminé" Rouge is a deep cherry red color. The nose is a bouquet of ripe red fruits with hints of leather and mild spices. Complex and mineral character. A full-bodied palate with fresh aromas - very elegant, silky and attractive tannins with a long finish on vanilla notes."
