Kehret Vineyards is a relative newcomer on the Amador County wine scene, but they've already made a name for themselves. Wine Enthusiast reviewed two of their debut wines and called them "stand-outs". Kehret specializes in small-lot premium wines showcasing the unique characteristics of the region. It's a hidden gem of the Central Coast. They make handcrafted, limited production and award-winning wines from their mountain-top vineyards that pay special to vineyard expression and balance. Recently they've hired Steve Leveque as their Master Winemaker, one of California's most renowned winemakers. His resume reads as a who's who of the wine world having worked at HALL, Chalk Hill, Opus One and Mondavi. The 2018 Kehret Vineyards Zinfandel was a great debut for the winery. It's just plain yummy with an irresistible entry and perfectly ripe and generous fruit. It's rich, bright, full-bodied and complex on the palate. This Zinfandel has nuances of bay leaf, sage, clove, raspberry, blackberry, black cherry, black pepper and briary fruit. It has good acidity and moderate tannins. Enjoy!
Wine Enthusiast, 94 Points
"Just plain yummy blackberry and black-cherry aromas give this full-bodied wine an irresistible entry before perfectly ripe and generous fruit flavors take over the palate. It reveals nuances of bay leaf, sage and clove with each sip, backed by good acidity and moderate tannins. It is a great debut for this Sierra-region winery. Best through 2028."
Winemaker Notes:
"An adaptive varietal that thrives throughout California, Zinfandel may well be at its peak in the Sierra Foothills. Zinfandel can take on many different styles depending on the vineyard and the winemaking techniques. The 2018 Kehret Vineyards Zinfandel is rich, bright and complex on the palate with aromas of raspberry, black pepper and briary fruit. This wine is well suited for many different food pairings. Try it with spicy Italian cuisine!"
