Chateau Gazin Rocquencourt is reputed to be one of the oldest estates in the Leognan region with their origins going back to the Middle Ages. They were noted in the renowned Féret guides since 1874 for the quality of their wines and their terroir. Chateau Gazin Rocquencourt is a hidden gem from Pessac-Leognan which is the best value, over-performing sub-region in Bordeaux. Their wines are known to be delicious, elegant, complex and full of personality. The reds present exceptional quality and show incomparable aptitude during aging. They brilliantly express the nobility and identity of their terroirs. The 2014 Chateau Gazin Rocquencourt is a triumph and full of velvety richness. It's dark, jammy, plump, juicy and expressive. This Bordeaux blend is polished and gorgeous with ultra-fine tannins. It's all about fruit intensity and suppleness. It has notes of fig, boysenberry, raspberry, cherry, pomegranate, lavender, chocolate, leather and rose petal. This striking Pessac-Leognan is racy and voluptuous with a dark, succulent personality and soft contours. It has a smooth texture with lots of boldness and spicy flavors. Enjoy!
Vinous, 93 Points
"One of the more overt reds of the vintage, the 2014 Gazin Rocquencourt is plump, juicy and expressive. Super-ripe red cherry, pomegranate, spice, new leather and rose petal give tons of pleasure with minimal cellaring. It is not particularly complex, but it offers the wine its dark, succulent personality and soft contours. Smoke, sweet floral notes and grilled herbs add attractive aromatic top notes, but in 2014, Gazin is all about fruit intensity and suppleness. This is an especially racy, voluptuous Pessac-Leognan that is ready to deliver striking upfront sexiness. In 2014 the blend is equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. This is a terrific showing from the Bonnie family and consulting winemaker Michel Rolland. Tasted three times."
James Suckling, 92 Points
"Fantastic aromas of dark berries, chocolate and minerals. Lavender, too. Medium body and ultra-fine tannins; this is polished and gorgeous. A triumph. Better than I remember."
Decanter, 90 Points
"They began a serious replanting programme in 2007 at Gazin Rocquencourt that was coming into its own by this point, helping in what was a slightly difficult vintage. There's a little more clay in the gravel here than at Malartic, and you feel it in the power of the black fruits, but there's also a touch of rusticity to the tannins through the finish. All would be forgiven with a good plate of food. Unfussy, well made and impactful."
Wine Spectator, 90 Points
"Juicy and compact in feel, with a still-coiled core of fig, boysenberry and raspberry fruit
framed by singed apple wood and licorice root notes. Delivers ample flesh and drive. Allow
this to unwind fully in the cellar. Best from 2018 through 2024."
Winemaker Notes:
"Deep and intense bright purple. Aromas full of finesse with perfumes arising from crushed berries, pulp, mature fruits, as well as vanilla, grilled almonds and smoke. Fleshy on the pallet, thick, containing tannins which are generally very mature and concentrated. A little firm, occasionally austere in their youth. The wines soften with age, as fruit tannins merge with oak, bringing openness and a smooth texture, a lot of boldness and spicy flavors. They leave a long lasting supple taste and a velvety richness."
