"Late last year, we received a cease-and-desist order from a big, corporate wine company claiming they had the sole rights to the name Laguna. Despite the fact that it refers to a wondrous place (the Laguna de Santa Rosa) that in our mind nobody should own, we couldn't marshall the resources to fight them. And so, here it is: the final vintage of Laguna Pinot Noir—a stalwart in our cellar since 2008.
And what a swan song it was. A warm, dry year that gave us small clusters, ripe tannins, and a wine with the characteristic crunchy red fruit like rhubarb and pomegranate. We blended a few barrels of our far coast vineyard designate Sealift with two magical Teac Mor lots (Pommard and 777). Each year the biodynamic farming at Teac Mor has improved the ecology of the place. This vineyard literally hums with life and the wine does too."
