Jeb Dunnuck,
"While the old vine cuvée won't be produced in 2021 (it wasn't produced in 2008, either), the 2021 Saint Joseph has lots to like. Deep ruby/purple-hued with clean, classic Northern Rhône notes of darker berries, pepper, forest floor, and some violets, it has a Burgundy-like mouthfeel and texture, with a wonderful sense of elegance. My money is on it being an outstanding Saint-Joseph that will drink well for 7-8 years or more."
Importer Notes:
"Saint-Josephs from this part of the Rhône are typically more delicate and floral than their brethren further south around Mauves, the birthplace of the appellation (across the river from Tain l’Hermitage). Much like the greatest southern Saint-Josephs can recall the wines of Hermitage, the greatest northern examples can resemble the wines of Côte-Rôtie. André’s are certainly among the finest, and they always have great density despite their seeming weightlessness and elegant bouquet. Here is a great opportunity to snap up a few bottles of this rarely seen nectar, to be enjoyed now and over the next five years."
Alcohol: 12.5%
