James Suckling, 94 Points
"Vivid strawberry and dried-flower aromas here with hints of sandalwood. Medium to full body with firm, creamy tannins and a tangy finish. Opulent. Tight and focused. Pumice and black and white-pepper notes."
Vinous, 94 Points
"The 2018 Pinot Noir Grace Benoist Ranch Deer Camp Vineyard emerges from a southwest facing bowl with cobbly soils that is relatively protected from the fog, which yields a wine of real textural presence and depth. Ripe red cherry/plum, spice, menthol, rose petal and iron all inform this potent, structured Pinot. Martini Clone is so distinctive in this wine."
Wine & Spirits, 92 Points
"Jon Priest blends this wine from the varied volcanic soils at Etude’s estate vineyard in northwestern Carneros. A contrast of bright spice and dark savor, the wine’s berry-scented fruit buzzes with honeyed energy, a kind of sweet earthiness that feels cool and clean. Braised quail would match its sumptuous texture."
Winemaker Notes:
"A vibrant ruby red, garnet color, with aromas of lifted red berries, black cherry and fresh strawberry, alongside earth and spice notes of cedar, pink peppercorn and crushed tea leaf, finishing with brown baking spice notes of nutmeg, cinnamon and clove, characteristics often found in Grace Benoist Ranch Pinot Noirs. Rich, round and silky with bright acidity and long, fine-grained tannins that suggest the opportunity to age a bit, for further development of the complex layers of flavor."
