SanCarlo is one of Montalcino's smallest family farms.  Fulvio Marcucci was ahead of the game when he purchased the land in the 1960s.  Fast forward some 50 years later, and these vineyards are entering their prime.  Fulvio's granddaughter, Gemma, is crafting vibrant, energetic wines that are making waves in the wider wine world.  Along with her father, Giancarlo, the duo is quickly becoming one of the most sought after producers from Tuscany.  The wines from this up and coming producer can be elusive because their production is small.  Eric Guido of Vinous writes, "Although very small in production, these wines are big in character.  They are evidence that small yet high-quality, under-the-radar winemaking is still alive and well in the Montalcino."  The 2019 SanCarlo Rosso di Montalcino is a lithe and lovely Sangiovese.  It has pure fruit and lively energy.  It's silky, juicy and fresh with wonderful balance.  This Sangiovese is enlivened by juicy acids and contrasting minerality.  It has notes of bright red fruit, light spice, and flowers.  The tannins are soft and refined and the wine builds in richness the longer it sits in the glass.  Enjoy!

Vinous, 91 Points

"The 2019 Rosso di Montalcino wafts up with a smoky and savory display of musky cherries, tomato leaf and tobacco, building in richness the longer it sits in the glass.  It’s silky and pliant, with a burst of sweet red fruits and spices further enlivened by juicy acids and contrasting minerality.  A coating of primary concentration coat the palate, creating youthful poise, as this tapers off to more sour notes of hard red candy and lingonberry."

Winemaker Notes:

"A lithe, lovely Sangiovese dedicated to the pure fruit and lively energy of this native Tuscan grape. Aromas of bright red fruit, light spice, flowers. Juicy and fresh, wonderful balance.  Juicy and lively, wonderful balance; tannins soft, refined."
