Decanter, 97 Points

"I found the 2020 Grands Echézeaux equally as impressive in bottle as I had out of the barrel. The wine, however, was different – initially relatively closed, it began to open only with time in the glass when a black cherry and mulberry fruit started to come to the fore with hints of earth and smoke. It had lost the exotic, forward element I had tasted in the barrel, but showed more substancee and richness here, with supple tannins and impressive length. When this wine opens back up again, it will be spectacular. Picked 25 August, 11,515 bottles made."

Wine Advocate, 97 Points

"The 2020 Grands Échézeaux Grand Cru is a striking young wine, offering up aromas of mulberries and cassis mingled with orange zest, exotic spices and rose petals. Full-bodied, seamless and complete, with an immensely layered, fleshy palate, it concludes with a long, penetrating, saline finish. Such is its fruit concentration that its rich, powdery tannins are almost imperceptible. Over the last decade, the Grands-Échézeaux has tended to take a back seat to the Romanée-Saint-Vivant and Richebourg, but that certainly isn't the case in 2020."

Burghound, 96 Points

"Note: from a holding of 3.53 ha of 55+ year old vines More restrained, ripe and exceptionally fresh aromas are comprised by notes of beautifully spicy red and dark berry fruit, violet, sandalwood and exotic tea nuances. The succulent, round and incredibly intense large-scaled flavors are not denser, but they are patently more powerful while delivering stunningly good length on the very firm and youthfully austere finale. This isn't as refined as the Ech, indeed it is almost rustic by comparison, but it exhibits even greater persistence. Moreover, it is clearly built-to-age and is a wine that should age gracefully for several decades."

Vinous, 96 Points

"The 2020 Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru is stellar. It boasts tremendous aromatic presence and nervous energy. Blood orange, rose petal, lavender, chalk and dark red-toned fruit build effortlessly. There is a feeling of vibrancy to the Grands Echézeaux that is impossible to miss. Bright acids perk up the long, beautifully persistent finish. Readers will have to be patient with the 2020. It's a gorgeous wine in the making."
