Founded in 1973, Herdade Do Esporao is a Portuguese powerhouse and one of the most important wineries in all of Portugal. They have been big advocates of the Alentejo region since their inception. Alentejo is a large wine region in Portugal which is very similar to California and features low rolling hills of wheat, even hot temperatures, and tons of sun. The region is beloved by the locals. When the Portuguese shop for wine, they shop Alentejo. Their white wines are fresh and elegant and range from medium-bodied refreshers to full-bodied, similar to Chardonnay. It has attracted many producers and its wine production continues to grow. Alentejo's charming, fruit-forward wines have gained global popularity. If you like dry, white wines you'll have no trouble finding something from Alentejo. The Esporao Reserva was the first wine the estate produced. Every year they invite a new artist to illustrate the label. It's a blend of three of Alentejo's most popular grapes - Antao Vaz, Arinto and Roupeiro. Antao Vaz has attained star status in the Alentejo for its aromatic qualities and complexity. Arinto is one of the most widely planted white grapes in Portugal and it produces crisp, vibrant wines, with high natural acidity and mineral profile. Roupeiro is a grape variety best known for its fragrant citrus notes. The 2020 Herdade Do Esporao Reserva White is creamy and elegant with balanced fruit. It has notes of vibrant grapefruit and white peach complemented by understated layers of green mint, white pepper, and nutmeg.
