Jorge Ordonez is one of Spain's most important pioneers in the discovery of ancient vines and forgotten indigenous varieties. He owns numerous wineries and is the founder of the Spanish icon Numanthia. Ordonez's personal crusade is to highlight Spain's incredible winemaking and grape growing history, as well as its wealth of very old vine vineyards. His work has resulted in the creation of many of the most well-known Spanish brands in the US. Ordonez is responsible for resurrecting and rediscovering regions such as Rais Baixas, Toro, Jumilla, Campo de Borja, Navarra, Bilbao and Malaga. Today, he has built and incredible portfolio of both benchmark and value-priced wines. He is unquestionably one of the reference point importers for Spain and his wines more than merit attention. Triton Tinta de Toro is the pure representation of the oldest clone of Tempranillo in Spain. The Triton is grown on 100-year-old vines and has enough lavish power to go toe-to-toe with Napa's big guns. The 2019 Bodegas Ordonez Triton Tinta de Toro is a Spanish stunner and another great value. It's seamless with a rich, powerful, structured style. It has ripe, velvety tannins and a supple, vivid finish. It has notes of black cherry, blackberry, plum, sandalwood, roasted thyme and rosemary. This Toro is medium to full-bodied, rich and fruity with spot on balance. It will keep for a decade. Enjoy!

"The 2019 Tinta De Toro Triton is another great value. Coming from six vineyard sites located in Toro and Morales de Toro, all planted between 1900 and 1958, it offers a rich, powerful, structured style in its smoked black fruits (there are some red fruits as well) to go with notes of sandalwood, cedary herbs, graphite, and loamy earth. Medium to full-bodied, its balance is spot on, it has ripe, velvety tannins, and a great finish. It’s going to keep for a decade."
James Suckling, 92 Points
"Roasted thyme and rosemary spice up the black-cherry, plum and blackberry aromas. The tight yet silky tannins seamlessly envelop the generous red and black fruit on the palate, leaving a supple and vivid finish. Tannin quality is the highlight here. Drink or hold."
Winemaker Notes:
"Triton Tinta de Toro is the pure representation of the oldest clone of Tempranillo in Spain, located in the only Spanish D.O. that completely resisted the phylloxera plague. The wine is rich and fruity, characterized by smooth, integrated tannin, and a long, elegant finish. The product of extremely dark, sweet berries."
