Winemaker Notes:
"Few people can imagine the enormous importance that this winery had, practically unknown to the general public, at the beginning of Rioja as a great region that produces quality wines. The company was founded in 1886 by the aristocrat Ángel Gómez de Arteche, Duke of Moctezuma de Tultengo. This nobleman, a direct descendant of the last Aztec emperor, settled in Haro where he produced one of the great myths of Rioja in the 19th century; the red Moctezuma. In 1916 the company was acquired by the brothers Agustín and Jesús Gómez Cruzado, who gave him his name definitively.
The winery is strategically located in the Haro Station neighborhood, between La Rioja Alta and Muga. It produced great wines that attest to the importance and strength of the Gómez Cruzado family project. Its wines were of an absolute classicism, recognizable, with an important initial weight of the aging in the barrel that after 20 or 30 years in the bottle reached very high levels of quality."
