Brendel is the latest label from Heitz Cellars, a name associated with world-class Cabernet. Heitz helped shape the reputation of Napa Valley into a Cabernet Sauvignon paradise. Led by Brittany Sherwood, Director of Winemaking at Heitz Cellars, Brendel is named after Napa Valley pioneer Leon Brendel. Brendel wines are made from some of the best sites in Napa's most renowned regions including Rutherford, Howell Mountain, St. Helena and Oak Knoll. The 2021 vintage added some top Sonoma Mountain sites, giving it more complexity and power and giving it a North Coast AVA. About two-thirds of the the 2021 Cabernet comes from Napa Valley with the remaining third sourced from Sonoma. The 2021 Brendel Cooper's Reed Cabernet Sauvignon is a fresh and vibrant take on Napa's famed varietal. It has mouthwatering structure and supple tannins. There are opulent aromas of blackberry, boysenberry, nutmeg, tea, cedar and dried florals. This Cabernet has a dry, silky finish. On the palate, there are notes of black cherries, blackberries, brambly blueberries, dark plum, bittersweet chocolate, candied orange zest and dried sage. This is a pure expression of Cabernet Sauvignon that unfolds gracefully on the palate. Enjoy!

"Opulent aromas of Blackberry, Boysenberry, nutmeg, Earl Grey tea, and notes of cedar and dried florals on the nose, while the flavors on the palate are brambled Blueberry, dark plum, bittersweet chocolate layered with candied orange zest, dried Sage, and supple tannins, create a dry, silky finish. Decant and pair with prime rib."
Wine Advocate, 90 Points
"Made by the Heitz team led by winemaker Brittany Sherwood, Brendel's 2021 Cooper's Reed Cabernet Sauvignon now includes a sufficient amount of Sonoma fruit to carry a North Coast AVA on the label—this vintage is approximately two-thirds Napa and one-third Sonoma, and the blend includes 5% Petite Sirah and 1% Merlot. Still made in old oak vats to avoid overt wood influence and just medium-bodied, it's something of a throwback stylistically. Although the fruit is quite obvious upfront, combining black cherries and blackberries, the wine is streamlined and somewhat restrained on the palate, finishing with ample length, hints of star anise and a silky texture. It's a decent value for a California Cabernet destined for early drinking."
Winemaker Notes:
"The 2021 Brendel Cooper’s Reed Cabernet Sauvignon is a fresh and vibrant take on Napa Valley’s famed grape varietal. Harvested under moonlight, the fruit is crushed at cool temperatures and then thoughtfully monitored throughout fermentation. After a 7-10 day fermentation, the wine is gently pressed to oak casks where it is allowed to mature for 9 months prior to bottling. Fruit is sourced from prized vineyards in Napa and Sonoma, giving the wine its mouthwatering structure, and elevage in upright oak casks preserves the bright red and black fruit characteristics."
