Winemaker Notes:
"Planted in 1976, Le Petit Chemarin showcases ethereal high-tones and strong mineral nuances. Its first vintage was 2014 and it quickly moved to the front of the pack then and every year thereafter. The bedrock here is limestone formed by a coral reef about a hundred and fifty million years ago. Whether influenced by some particularity of the geology or not, this wine made nearly the same as all the other crus in François’ range, it is unique in its own way and stands apart from the entire range in polish and delicacy. In the past, Le Petit Chemarin was used for the basic Sancerre white, but after years of vinifying it separately in the cellar, François recognized its merit as a single site bottling. We couldn’t agree more. It is one of our favorites because of its unique display of x-factors, strikingly fine mineral textures and sleek profile. It’s fermented and aged in a neutral twenty-hectoliter tronconic French oak vat and bottled at the end of the summer following the harvest."
