"Herbaceous character on the nose, lively blue fruits, green beans and hints of blackberries. Easy to drink, very refreshing."
Wine & Spirits, 91 Points
"Electric-purple in the glass, this has notes of licorice, clove and crushed berries. It’s spicy and dark, with lively blue fruit flavors and an irresistible crunchy energy, wildly overdelivering for its price."
Tasting Panel, 90 Points
"Who knew this uncommon southern French grape would shine in Monterey County? Following fresh aromas of candied grape and cranberry, it produces a wine that's bright and a bit spicy on the palate, with startling acidity and notes of black raspberry pie that linger on the juicy finish. Best served chilled."
Winemaker Notes:
"Served slightly chilled, this wine displays inviting fresh raspberry, cranberry, and pomegranate aromas, with a bit of black pepper and hibiscus. Flavors of brambly, bright red berry with a touch of spice, mid-palate acidity lead to a juicy, mouthwatering finish."
About the Vineyard:
"J. Lohr's Valdiguié is grown on Chualar loam soil in the Arroyo Seco appellation of Monterey County. Originally thought to be the Gamay Noir variety of France's Beaujolais winegrowing region, U.C. Davis has since identified this grape to be Valdiguié from southwest France. Regardless of its origin and identity, Valdiguié grown in the windy, cool Arroyo Seco produces a wine reminiscent of the "Crus" of Beaujolais."
Alcohol: 12.5%
