"If picked with higher acid and at a lower pH than later efforts, this wine still shows the ripeness that marked the warm 1984 vintage. It is less refined but richer and more fully stuffed than the bottlings after and before it, and it has not let go of its basic fruit. It is a touch dry but in fine shape for a twenty-two-year wine, and it can hold up for another half-decade or more."
