"The 2013 Vilmart & Cie “Rosé Emotion” Brut Millésime is produced from sixty year-old vines. The wine is given ten months aging in small barrels prior to bottling for secondary fermentation, with the vins clairs not going through malo. The cépages is forty percent chardonnay and sixty percent pinot noir, with the pinot all saignéed prior to blending with the chardonnay. It was given six years aging sur latte, disgorged in April of 2020 and finished with a dosage of eight grams per liter. The wine is a lovely salmon color and offers up a deep and complex bouquet of tangerine, rhubarb, wheat toast, chalky soil tones, dried rose petals, gentle smokiness and just a hint of caraway seed in the upper register. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, refined and elegant in profile, with a fine core, good mineral undertow, elegant mousse and fine length and grip on the complex and beautifully balanced finish."

"Sleek and lightly chalky in texture, this vinous version shows a well-spiced range of wild strawberry, macerated cherry and orange liqueur flavors, with accents of graphite, violet and fennel seed. Long and mouthwatering, with the plushly creamy finish carrying the expressive profile. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Disgorged April 2020. Drink now through 2033."

"Disgorged in March 2020, Vilmart's 2013 Brut Emotion wafts from the glass with aromas of pear, tangerine, red berries and hazelnuts. Medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, it's concentrated and structured, with chalky extract, racy acids and a pillowy mousse. If anything, this is more reserved than its 2013 counterpart, and it will reward some bottle age."

"The 2013 Champagne Emotion Brut Rose is a touch paler in color, with a bit more orange hue. The nose is more reserved but keeps all the orchard fruit as well as a bit of hibiscus and rooibos. The palate is ripe and very pretty. I like this on the palate more. There is none of the light bitterness that I found in the 2014. Drink over the next 15 or more years."

"The 2013 Brut Rosé Emotion is more interesting than the 2014 tasted alongside it, as it has more depth and overall textural presence. Here, too, I find the fruit a bit faded, while the oak imprint is unusually strong."
