2019 Domaine Jean Grivot Echezeaux Grand Cru [JM98][D95][BH95]

"Dense dark concentrated purple, an attractive touch of oak, a sense that it wants to be detailed yet is offering the sunshine which threatens to make it more monolithic – but in fact cannot. It is just a question of needing more elevage, I think. This will show its nuances but on a richer scale than usual. Etienne Grivot offers this viewpoint: “Our Echezeaux is glamorous but sometimes lacks intelligence – not this year, it has une résonance hallucinante." 

"This 0.85ha holding of vines in the lieu-dit Cruots, next to Comte Liger-Belair, was planted in 1954. This prime site yields fruit of complexity and depth, delivering rich blackberry fruit, exotic spice, smoke and mineral notes. The wine is firm without being hard, with finely-textured tannins, substantial extract and a lingering, subtle finish." 

"Ripe, fresh and beautifully layered aromas are comprised by notes of plum, black raspberry, anise and spicy jasmine tea. There is outstanding volume to the caressing and seductive but powerful and muscular large scaled flavors that deliver first-class persistence on the moderately austere and superbly persistent finish. Like the Clos de Vougeot, this is compact and very firm and a wine that will require extended patience, but it should be well-worth the wait."
