Ottavino Wines aims to focus on varietals and winemaking techniques which are lesser known and unexpected in California, but equally outstanding.  Shalini Sekhar launched her winery in 2020 and is one of the busiest winemakers in California.  In addition to Ottavino, she also crafts wines for Neely Wines and Waits-Mast.  Sekhar honed her wine skills at Williams-Selyem, Copain, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, Furthermore and ROAR.   She has a long history of making highly-rated and highly regarded wines and was named in the San Francisco Chronicle's Winemakers To Watch.  The wines she makes for Ottavino are every bit as serious as the wines she crafts for her winery clients.  For her own label, Ottavino, she likes to go off the beaten track with varieties like St. Laurent and Gruner Veltliner which are both exceedingly rare in California.  St. Laurent is an Austrian variety whose parentage is a mix of Pinot Noir and an unknown variety, now thought to be extinct.  The resulting wine is something like if Pinot Noir and Syrah had a baby.  Expressive and fruity, St. Laurent is known for its deep color and aromas of morello cherries.  The 2023 Ottavino Ricci Vineyard Rosé of St. Laurent has a refreshing acidity that keeps the palate lively.  On the palate, there are notes of strawberry, cherry, nectarine, ginger, rose water and hints of spice.  On the nose, there are aromas of floral tones and cherry fruit.  This rosé is highly versatile with food and has a bright citrus acidity that vibrates through the finish.  Enjoy!

"Medium salmon-pink, the 2023 Rosé of St. Laurent is whole-cluster pressed. Red fruits of strawberry and cherry are layered with hints of spice and rose water. Refreshing acidity keeps the palate lively. Highly versatile, it pairs well with dishes featuring fresh herbs like Thai chicken larb or any delicious fried snack like Indian chakli."
