Founded in 2011, Brick & Mortar is a small production winery that focuses on single-vineyard Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah from select high-elevation vineyards. Led by winemaker Matt Iconis, they craft wines with Old World elegance while staying true to their home terroir. Brick & Mortar is a rising star on the California wine scene. Matt Iconis was named one of Wine Enthusiast's "Innovative New Guard Winemakers". Wine Enthusiast credited them as one of the few wineries "carving out a broader sense of what's possible" in California. He crafts wines of grace and finesse that have been met with much praise from the wine world. Their first ever sparkling debut was snatched up by Single Thread and The French Laundry. In fact, you can regularly find Brick & Mortar wines on the wine list at the Michelin-starred Single Thread restaurant. The 2023 Brick & Mortar Sonoma Coast Chardonnay is all understated grace. It’s food-friendly and has aromas of lemon blossom, green apple and juicy pear. On the palate there are flavors of yellow apple, bright citrus, ripe pear, white flowers, white peach, sweet cinnamon, river rock and hints of flint. This coastal Chardonnay is energetic with tangerine-lime acidity and lovely tension. It’s beautiful in its youth and will age gracefully and improve for another 5+ years. Enjoy!
Wine Enthusiast, 91 Points
"Lemon blossom, green apple and juicy pear aromas dominate the nose of this food-friendly Chardonnay. The palate gives more apple flavors, along with river rock, sweet cinnamon and a wide streak of tangerine-lemon acidity. Enjoy this with halibut crudo or scallops."
Winemaker Notes:
All grace, an understated, coastal Chardonnay that will drink well right out of the gate. Bright citrus intertwines with ripe pear and yellow apple in the glass. White flowers, nuances of white peach, and hints of flint create an energetic palate with acidity and tension. Beautiful in its youth, this Chardonnay will age gracefully and improve over the next 5+ years."
