Peterson Winery is a family-owned winery that has been making soulful wines in Dry Creek Valley for over 30 years.  They make small batch, unique artisanal wines.  Fred Peterson worked as a vineyard manager for big producers like Mt. Eden and Ridge before opening his own winery in 1987.  He initially made wine for his family and friends but started selling to the public in 1993.  Now he still manages the vines, but his son, Jamie, makes the wines.  They have a down to earth, low tech winemaking philosophy of "zero manipulation" which means eschewing additives and letting the true flavors of the grape and the vintage shine through.  The Petersons believe in celebrating the uniqueness of each vintage.  Their Dry Creek Zinfandel is a wine that reflects the overall Dry Creek Valley terroir with classic deep and dark brambly Zin fruit.  The 2019 Peterson Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel took home a Double Gold and 96 Points from the 2023 Harvest Terroir Challenge.  It's a wine of richness, complexity, depth, spice and above all, balance.  It has good structure and a luscious layer of fruit.  This Zinfandel has aromas of ripe cherry, red plum and fresh sliced strawberry.  There is mouthwatering acidity on the palate along with bright flavors of red raspberry, Rainer cherry, wild strawberry, plum, white pepper, cinnamon, dried oregano, violets and pepper.  This wine has a touch of minerality on the lingering finish.  Enjoy!

Double Gold, 96 Points - 2023 Harvest Terroir Challenge

"Good structure and acidity. Jazzy and snappy."

Winemaker Notes:

"Accompanying the depth of fruit flavors, you’ll find richness, complexity, spice and earthiness. Compared to our other Zinfandels, this bottling contains the highest percentage of blending varietals to give maximum spice and an intriguing multifaceted quality without overwhelming the inherent “Zinniness” of the wine. The Petite Sirah gives the wine darker earth notes and more structure, while Carignane enhances the spiciness and bright acidity, and Grenache adds a luscious layer of fruit creating a wine with complexity, depth, and above all, balance.  A medley of red fruit aromas fills the nose — ripe cherry, red plum and fresh sliced strawberry — along with a hint of pepper. Mouthwatering acidity greets the palate with bright flavors of red raspberry, Rainer cherry, wild strawberry and Santa Rosa plum. Traces of white pepper, cinnamon, dried oregano and violets mingle with the delicious fruit essence. A touch of minerality appears in the finish as the flavors linger on."
