Super Tuscans are the unofficial star of Italy.  They embody the rebellious spirit of Italian winemakers and have emerged as a category of their own.  The term was coined in the early 1980s to describe a red blend from Tuscany that didn't use indigenous grapes.  The creation of Super Tuscans resulted from the frustration winemakers had towards the restrictive Italian wine laws.  Super Tuscans don't follow the strict rules of the Italian appellations and can be made entirely from Sangiovese or blended with international grapes.  Since their creation, Super Tuscans have taken on a near mythical status.  The best Super Tuscans are rich, full-bodied and can age for decades.  They represent the top expressions of Italian winemaking today.  Campo alle Comete is located on the Tuscan coast in the heart of Bolgheri.  It's the result of Feudi di San Gregorio's investment in the Bolgheri region.  Bolgheri is a world-class wine region and known mainly for deeply colored, supple yet age-worthy reds.  The 2023 Campo alle Comete Stupore Bolgheri Rosso is a dark purple hue and generous and forward in the glass.  This Merlot-dominated blend is full-bodied with plush tannins, an approachable feel and a good finish.  It's charming and versatile with a pretty feel.   It's soft and balanced on the palate with fruity notes.  This Super Tuscan has notes of boysenberry compote, blueberry, very ripe peaches, figs, mandarin blossom, candied purple flowers and sweet herbs.  It has rich aromas of raspberry, fresh plum, cherry, espresso and dark chocolate.  Enjoy!

"The 2023 Bolgheri Rosso is a dark purple hue and is generous and forward in the glass with boysenberry compote, candied purple flowers, blueberry, and sappy sweet herbs. A Merlot-dominated blend, it has the addition of 25% each Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Full-bodied, it has plush ripe tannins, an approachable feel, and a good finish. It’s very charming and versatile, with a very pretty feel. Drink now or over the coming 7-8 years."

"Intense red ruby color. In the nose a fruity hint of fresh plum and cherry, blending with sweet roasted cocoa notes and a hint of balsamic eucalyptus reminding the Mediterranean scrub. Soft and balanced on the palate with fruity notes. Persistent aftertaste with rich aromas and a pleasant fresh finish."
