Wine Spectator, 92 Points

"This white is lush, exuding peach, lemon, apple tart and baking spice aromas and flavors. Well-proportioned, if in need of some time to integrate more fully, with a long, complex aftertaste combining fruit, mineral and spice elements."

Burghound, 90-92 Points

"Enough reduction is present to push the underlying fruit to the background. Otherwise there is a similar sense of energy to the slightly rounder and softer medium-bodied flavors that aren't quite as mineral-driven or complex but do offer fine persistence on the balanced finish. This should be approachable young if desired."

Vinous, 89-92 Points

"Pale, bright yellow. Riper and deeper on the nose than the Sous le Dos d'Ane, offering aromas of peach, smoke and white pepper. A step up in intensity and texture as well, but still with very good definition and lift to its stone fruit flavors. A solidly built midweight."

Decanter, 90 Points

"In the past, Leflaive’s Clavoillon was often quite blocky, but the cuvée has become more and more elegant over time. This 2016 shows a pure and high-toned bouquet of lemon oil, white flowers and a delicate scent of peach. The wine is glossy, medium-full and sappy, with moderate concentration and depth."

John Gilman, 90 Points

"The 2016 Clavoillon was another wine that really was not singing at the time of my visit, sharing an apparent lack of energy in comparison to some of these other wines in the cellar. The nose is very pretty and quite wide open, delivering scents of white peach, apple, almond, chalk, white flowers and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, crisp and complex, with good, but not great depth at the core, sound acids and a long, elegant and laid back finish. It will be interesting to see if this wine gains more backend cut and grip with further elevage. (Drink between 2020-2040)."
