Marimar Torres has been in the wine business her entire life. A scion of an old Spanish wine family, Marimar exported the family legacy of fine wines to California. Her vineyards are unique in California because they are totally European in style. The European-style means the vines live longer and the grapes acquire better balance and greater concentration, as well as more elegance and finesse. The wines are made entirely from estate-grown grapes and are truly an expression of their unique terroir. Since the first vintage in 1989, her wines have made a splash showing the same vigor and elegance that defines the Torres wine in Spain. Winemaker Bill Dyer trained with legend Ric Forman and has also worked at Frog's Leap, Sodaro Estate and with Sterling Vineyard. The La Masia Chardonnay is a stunner from the coveted Russian River Valley. It's comparable to Chardonnay from Ramey, DuMol and Hartford Court that are two to three times the price. If you love Chardonnay from Rombauer or Cakebread, this wine is for you. The 2018 Marimar Estate Don Miguel Vineyard La Masia Chardonnay is full-bodied and lush. It's a true Chardonnay lover's Chardonnay. It's rich yet balanced with bright acidity and a long, savory finish. It's soft, smooth, rounded and perfectly balanced. It's rich and savory, yet crisp and mouth-filling. This Chardonnay has notes of baked apple, lemon custard, white peach, mango, elegant oak, vanilla bean, hazelnut and brioche. It has toasty undertones and toffee on the finish. Enjoy!
James Suckling, 92 Points
"A full-bodied white with ripe aromas of cooked apple, mango and yoghurt. Toasty undertones. It builds on the palate with loads of fruit and intensity. Rather old-school chardonnay, but solid."
Wine & Spirits, 91 Points
"A fragrant chardonnay with scents of lilies and fresh apricots, this tastes youthful and clean. While it’s barrel fermented and undergoes malolactic conversion, it isn’t overtly oaky or buttery; instead, a touch of vanilla cream adds gentleness to the fruit. Serve it with pork roasted with apricots."
Wine Enthusiast, 90 Points
"From the producer's 30-acre estate of Chardonnay planted to three clones, blended together here, this white offers pronounced flavors of stone fruit and vanilla bean. Soft, smooth and rounded, it has enough acidity to keep in balance and touches of nut and baking spice to give it a savory finish."
Press Democrat, 4.5 Stars
"This is a lush chardonnay with notes of apple, creme brulée and brioche. And it has a toffee finish. Rich yet balanced, it's buoyed by bright acidity. This is a chardonnay lover's chardonnay. Lovely."
Winemaker Notes:
"The intense nose is delicate and very focused, with aromas of star jasmine and white peach, nicely framed with the elegant oak that contributes notes of hazelnut. The palate is rich and savory yet crisp and mouthfilling, reminiscent of baked apple and lemon custard. The finish is long and perfectly balanced."
