Stolo Vineyards is a family-run, boutique winery. Starting with the 2021 vintage, Raj Parr became the winemaker at Stolo. Raj Parr is an industry legend and one of California's top vitners. He is a former sommelier to the stars turned superstar winemaker. He began his wine career as an apprentice to one of the industry’s most acclaimed master sommeliers, Larry Stone at Rubicon in San Francisco. He later worked as a sommelier to the stars for the Michelin-starred Michael Mina. Raj Parr is an absolute giant of the wine world and a globally celebrated and highly acclaimed sommelier. He has three James Beard awards and curated four Wine Spectator Grand Award wine lists. The San Francisco Chronicle called him "California's most influential sommelier turned winemaker". Parr's love for cool-climate, classic French-inspired wines makes Stolo a perfect fit for him. He is typically responsible for wines priced much higher - usually at the $100+ range. Parr's wines are perennially high-scoring with critics. His philosophy is to capture the essence of the wine from the vineyard to the bottle. The 2021 Stolo Estate Syrah is medium-bodied, beautiful and savory. It has smoky, flinty tones and a long, savory finish. This is a lively expression of Syrah that is bouncy with energy and spicy on flavor. It has notes cranberries, blackberries, juniper, herbs de Provence, rosemary, smoked meats and cracked pepper. The wine boasts a chalky and refreshing palate, accompanied by smooth tannins and a full-bodied flavor. Enjoy!
Wine Advocate, 95 Points
"The 2021 Syrah Estate has a medium ruby color and smoky, flinty tones that give way to cranberries, blackberries, juniper, resinous herbs and cured meats. The medium-bodied palate is chalky and very fresh with a core of savory fruit, generous meaty and flinty nuances and a long, savory finish."
Wine Enthusiast, 93 Points
"A lighter hue in the glass, this bottling hits the nose with lively aromas of smashed black raspberry, rosemary clippings and cracked pepper, making for a lively expression. The palate is bouncy in energy and spicy on flavor, pairing pepper and dank herb with the core of brisk, tart fruit."
