Mas Que Vinos was founded in 1998 by three winemaker friends, each one with extensive winemaking experience. They began a personal winery project of rescuing old plots of indigenous grapes and moving to all organic farming. Mas Que Vinos specializes in unique wines done in small-batch productions. Their wines have received great recognition from the Spanish and international press. This wine comes from their limited edition range which features wines with a marked personality and each with its own story. The Garnacha de la Madre is one of their most interesting wines. It's an unusual Alicante Bouschet with lots of character and striking finesse. Alicante is famous for producing wines of a deep, dark red color. The 2018 Más Que Vinos Garnacha de la Madre is polished and elegant with a floral nose. The finish is long and elegant with soft tannins and good acidity. It's medium-bodied, fresh and sophisticated. This red has notes of grapefruit, red berries, white currant, pepper, white tea, graphite, lavender and sandalwood. This is an unusual wine that will intrigue wine lovers. It's hard to place and equally hard to forget. Enjoy!
Wine Advocate, 93+ Points
“I was really surprised by the floral and elegant nose of the 2018 La Garnacha de la Madre to the point that I thought maybe I was mistaken and that the wine was produced with Garnacha rather than Garnacha Tintorera grapes! The vines are in a cooler place, and they ripen slowly and are picked late with fully developed aromas and flavors but, curiously enough, not with a very dark color. It talks about a short maceration and an élevage in concrete for 12 months, which has respected the primary character of the wine while it's also polished and complex. The finest vintage for this wine so far. Only 3,000 bottles. It was bottled in June 2020”
Winemaker Notes:
"Ruby red. Aromas of grapefruit, white and pink pepper, graphite, lavender and curry, interspersed with elegant nuances of undergrowth, cumin, sandalwood and white currant. Elegant and fine in the attack. The palate is marked by flavors of acidic red fruits, grapefruit and pepper, with a background of white tea and mineral nuances. Medium body. The aftertaste is long and elegant due to good acidity and soft tannins."
