Super Tuscans are the unofficial star of Italy and have taken on a near mythical status. The best Super Tuscans are rich, full-bodied and can age for decades. They represent the top expressions of Italian winemaking today. The Petra winery was conceived with the intention of bringing together some of the greatest pioneers of Italian wine to create a new benchmark for Super Tuscans. Zingari comes from an experimental vineyard used as a testing ground for grapes from the Rhone and Bordeaux. The results proved spectacular and Petra Zingari was born. Zingari over-delivers every time and critics agree. Previous vintages of Zingari have made Wine Spectator's list of Top 100 Wines. Vinous wrote, "year after year, the wines are reliably outstanding." They went on to call Petra one of their "favorite properties for intense, flavorful wines." Zingari is a tantalizing bargain for any wine, but especially for a Super Tuscan. The 2018 Petra Zingari Toscana Rosso is a fresh, vivid red with a racy finish. It's a highly concentrated ruby color and is soft and full-bodied. It has fresh flavor with vivid acidity and structure. This Super Tuscan is a blend of Merlot, Syrah, Sangiovese and Petit Verdot. It's pleasant and interesting with Mediterranean aromatics. On the palate, there are flavors of cherries, currants, raspberry, cinnamon, white pepper, hazelnut and a hint of chocolate. Enjoy!
James Suckling, 92 Points
"A fresh, vivid red with cherries, currants and hints of hazelnuts and chocolate. Medium body. Racy finish. Like the vivid acidity that runs through this. Drink or hold."
Wine Enthusiast,
"A blend of Merlot, Sangiovese, Petit Verdot and Syrah, this has aromas of black-skinned berry, Mediterranean brush and a whiff of orange zest. The bright palate offers raspberry, cinnamon and white pepper alongside polished tannins and fresh acidity. Drink through 2025."
Winemaker Notes:
"Zingari was born as an experimental vineyard to test the attitude of its varietals: Syrah, Merlot, Sangiovese and Petit Verdot. Highly concentrated ruby color, which introduces the Mediterranean aromatic notes of this wine. Soft and full-bodied in mouth, it has a fresh flavor with good acidity and a structure with balsamic and mineral notes that make Zingari pleasant and interesting."
