For those that already love German Riesling, Wittmann should be a familiar name.  They're an iconic producer of Riesling and the Wittmann family has been growing grapes in the Rheinhessen since 1663.  They're one of the top Rheinhessen producers and were an early catalyst for the region's renaissance.  Wittmann were pioneers in developing the full-bodied, well-balanced style of dry wines for which Rheinhessen is known.  They led the shift to organic farming way before the movement became popular.  Philipp Wittmann's work both in his winery and the community have been monumental in the journey to redefine the quality and style of Rheinhessen wines.  He is one of Germany's most dynamic winemakers and has garnered an excellent reputation around the world.  Wine Enthusiast called him a "Winemaker to Watch".  The foundation of the estate is balanced wines that have tension, depth and intensity but are still fresh and elegant.  2021 was considered the vintage of the decade and with this wine it's easy to see why.  The 2021 Wittmann Westhofener Riesling Trocken is a beautiful, stunning wine that Wine Advocate called, "A Must Have".  It's a standout wine that's creamy and concentrated on the palate.  It has notes of impeccably ripe peachy fruit, chalky minerality, Amalfi lemon, persimmon, apple and crushed rocks.  It's silky, lush and savory with great finesse.  This Riesling is a great example of the dry style with impressive richness.  It's impeccably balanced with a very long finish.  This is a very elegant, pure and saline Riesling that can easily compete with so many Grosses Gewächs Rieslings.  Enjoy!

James Suckling, 95 Points

"Serious concentration of impeccably ripe peachy fruit, plus great finesse make this a standout in this category. Rolls over the palate with great mineral drive, yet remains impeccably balanced. A starburst of chalky minerality at the very long finish. Mostly from the Morstein GG site with a small amount of wine from the Brunnenhauschen GG site. From biodynamically grown grapes with Respekt certification. Vegan. Drink or hold.

Wine Advocate, 94 Points

"Composed of Morstein satellites and younger vines (six plots), as well as Brunnenhäuschen and Aulerde (one plot each), the 2021 Westhofener Riesling "1G" offers a dense and intense, saline and flinty bouquet of ripe Riesling fruit with notes of crushed rocks and Amalfi lemons. Silky, lush and savory on the palate, with lingering lemon juice notes, this is a compact and tensioned, very elegant, pure and saline Riesling that can easily compete with so many Grosses Gewächs Rieslings in Germany this year. It is a stunning wine with salinity, lovely grip and tension, but it's already accessible. A Must Have."

Wine Spectator, 93 Points

"A great example of the dry style, with impressive richness, this brims with savory and ripe fruit power in perfect union, featuring persimmon and apple punctuated by smoke, wet slate and dried herbs. Creamy on the concentrated palate, with earthy undertones and white mocha notes adding richness, while citrusy acidity drives length. Beautiful."
