John and Dianne started as grape and dairy farmers before founding Bucher Wines in 2011. In addition to being a small, boutique winery it's still a working dairy farm and vineyard. Bucher Vineyard grows some of the best grapes in Sonoma County. Their grapes are sourced by top-tier Pinot Noir producers like Williams-Selyem, Merry Edwards, Kosta Browne, Ramey, Papapietro and Joseph Jewell. The Bucher family decided to try their hand at winemaking and crushed their first grapes in 2011. Their first vintage of wine came two years later. They had a desire to make high quality wines at accessible prices. Adam Lee, superstar winemaker of Siduri fame, has been with them since the first vintage. He has a reputation as one of California's best winemakers and has earned a cult following. Wine critic Jeb Dunnuck writes, "The Bucher wines show off a plush ripeness of style with good purity and classic appeal." The 2023 J. Bucher Sauvignon Blanc Is crisp and delicious with delicate aromas of lemon zest, white flowers, and grapefruit. It’s dewy, bright, focused and linear. The bright entry reveals mouthwatering acidity and layers of luscious flavors. This Sauvignon Blanc is beautifully balanced with a round, rich texture. On the palate, there are notes of Bosc pear, green melon, Meyer lemon, Pomelo, fresh herbs, green apple, ginger and tropical fruit. This is a refreshing, elegant and lovely wine. Enjoy!
Jeb Dunnuck, 93+ Points
"A brilliant platinum/straw hue, the 2023 Sauvignon Blanc is crystalline and refined. It comes from 25- and 40-year-old vines right next to the Bucher property. It’s dewy and bright, with aromas of fresh Bosc pear, white flowers, and green melon. Focused and linear, it floats through the palate with a floral finish. This lovely Sauvignon Blanc is going to drink well over the coming 6-7 years."
Winemaker Notes:
"This crisp, delicious wine hits all the desired benchmarks of a Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc. Delicate aromas of lemon zest, white floral, and traces of fresh cut grapefruit belie the striking layers of luscious flavors to follow. The bright entry reveals mouthwatering acidity that is beautifully balanced by a round, rich texture. Enjoy Meyer lemon and Pomelo laced with traces of fresh herbs, green apple, ginger, and tropical fruit. Threads of fresh lemon and a saline minerality linger in the finish, encouraging the next sip of this refreshing, elegant wine."
