Founded in 2011, Brick & Mortar is a small production winery that focuses on single-vineyard Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah from select high-elevation vineyards. Led by winemaker Matt Iconis, they craft wines with Old World elegance while staying true to their home terroir. Brick & Mortar is a rising star on the California wine scene. Matt Iconis was named one of Wine Enthusiast's "Innovative New Guard Winemakers". Wine Enthusiast credited them as one of the few wineries "carving out a broader sense of what's possible" in California. He crafts wines of grace and finesse that have been met with much praise from the wine world. Their first ever sparkling debut was snatched up by Single Thread and The French Laundry. In fact, you can regularly find Brick & Mortar wines on the wine list at the Michelin-starred Single Thread restaurant. The 2023 Brick & Mortar Anderson Valley Pinot Noir is vibrant with inviting and expressive aromas. On the nose, there are notes of bing cherry, strawberry, plum, savory sage, rose petals and vanilla cream. This Pinot has bright acidity driving a long, lively finish. The palate is smooth and richly flavored with flavors of dark berries, red currant, cranberries, orange bitters, cardamom, dried cedar, graphite and sea salt. Enjoy!
Wine Enthusiast, 94 Points
"This wine is vibrant, with aromas of baked Bing cherry, strawberry, plum, dried herbs and vanilla cream on the nose. Flavors of red currant-cranberry confiture and orange bitters wrap around cardamom spice, chicory and a long, supple finish. Hold or drink until 2032. Pair with halibut and parsnip purée."
Winemaker Notes:
"Inviting and expressive aromas of bright wild strawberry and raspberry are combined with hints of savory sage and rose petals. The palate is smooth and richly flavored with a mix of dark berries, mushrooms, and dried cedar. Hints of graphite and sea salt bring another dimension that comes together with a bright acidity driving a long, lively finish."
