"The 2022 Chablis Au Dessus des Carrieres was still showing a touch of reaction on the nose despite having been opened the previous afternoon. It unfolds with dried honey, undergrowth, white asparagus and hints of white truffle - quite distinctive. The palate is well-balanced with a tangy opening, plenty of extract here, almost resinous in texture with a dash of spice box on the finish. I would afford this 2-3 years in bottle."
Burghound, 91 Points
"This could easily pass for a very good Vaillons with its aromas of white pepper, cool mineral reduction and airy floral and oyster shell nuances. There is both excellent volume and punch to the intensely mineral-driven medium weight flavors that conclude in a chiseled, moderately austere and beautifully long finish. It is rare to find a villages-level delivering this level of quality and it is highly recommended, plus it should repay even extended keeping. Buy it."
Winemaker Notes:
"The name translates as "over the quarry," for the two parcels that are reserved for this wine grow above an old quarry in a bed of pure Kimmeridgian limestone, essentially one mammoth roche mère, or mother rock. Both parcels were planted in the 1970s, one with a clone, the other with a sélection massale, and the two cover just under five acres of ground. The layer of top soil is so thin here that there is a dead zone where nothing grows in the center of the parcels. These two parcels are always the first to be harvested by the Picqs, and the last to be bottled. Old-school Chablis that is impeccably well balanced. Extremely age-worthy."
