James Suckling, 96 Points
"Made from a mix of 90-year-old vines and younger ones on Paul Hobbs’ property, the wine is opulent, nicely viscous and quite ripe in fruit flavors. Blueberries, black cherries, blackcurrants and spearmint mingle with silky tannins on a full body. Aged in about 50% new oak, the wine is subtly spicy and well-polished. Almost drinkable now or hold."
Wine Advocate, 94 Points
"From own-rooted vines planted in 2014, the 2021 Hobbs Estate Malbec underwent an 18-month élevage in 225- and 500-liter barrique, 50% of which were new. It is a supple, polished expression of Agrelo, leading with a deep, herbal and elegant bouquet with a core of black fruits and turned-earth aromas. The palate is enveloping and refined, concluding with a rich, creamy and persistent finish. I found this the softest and most seductive example of the Viña Cobos vineyard-designate Malbecs, rendered with high-fidelity and calibrated precision."
Wine Spectator, 93 Points
"Far from shy, this red leaps from the glass, with mocha and toasted graham notes leading to a lush, polished and fruit-driven berry mélange core. Finishes with subtle details of spiced vanilla, herbal twinges and round tannins. Drink now through 2040. 200 cases made."
