The younger generation at the award-winning Clos du Caillou purchased Domaine de Panisse in 2020.  The estate had existed for centuries and is surrounded by some prime Chateauneuf-du-Pape vineyards.  Panisse's oldest vine parcel is also home to Domaine de la Janasse's oldest vines which are usually reserved for its special and rarer older-vine blend.  With a terroir that echoes Chateauneuf’s finest, winemaker Marilou Vacheron and her brother Axel are more than well-positioned to craft seriously compelling and character-rich southern blends.  Panisse's wines surprise with their lift and energy.  They're full of dark fruit and spice, wild herbs and lavender perfume.  Balance and elegance define these Rhone blends.  The 2021 Domaine de Panisse Cotes-du-Rhone Le Mazet is especially impressive and quite powerful yet silky-textured and immediately appealing.  It's medium to full-bodied, plump, delicious and balanced with a good finish.  It's a soulful and succulent Cotes du Rhone full of southern power and spice.  This Rhone blend has aromas of black fruit, pepper and wild herbs.  The palate abounds with flavors of black cherry, raspberry, black olive, pepper and notes of brown spice.  Enjoy!

Wine Advocate, 90 Points

"A 60-40 blend of Syrah and Grenache from just outside Plan de Dieu, the 2021 Cotes du Rhone Le Mazet is especially impressive, considering the challenges posed by the vintage. It showcases the peppery, violet side of Syrah but also reveals ample black cherry and raspberry fruit on the nose. It's medium to full-bodied, quite powerful yet silky-textured and immediately appealing. It should drink well for several more years."

Jeb Dunnuck,

"A co-fermented blend of 60% Syrah and 40% Grenache from the northern part of the appellation, the 2021 Côtes Du Rhône Le Mazet brings a darker profile (no doubt due to the high Syrah) with its blackberry, black olive, and peppery nuances. These carry to a medium-bodied, plump, delicious, balanced Côtes Du Rhône offering ripe tannins, a good sense of freshness, and a good finish."

Winemaker Notes:

"A soulful and succulent Côtes du Rhône, full of sunny southern power and spice. A blend of Grenache and Syrah, sourced from vineyards in the village of Serignan du Comtat, north of Courthézon.  Aromas of ripe black fruit, pepper, wild herbs (thyme, lavender). Round and generous, well-balanced; black fruit is plush yet still fresh, with notes of brown spice."
