The history of Chateau Pegau starts with Domaine Pegau.  Domaine Pegau is owned by a father and daughter team, Paul and Laurence Feraud.  The family has been growing vines in France since 1670.  Pegau is one of the greatest estates in the Chateauneuf du Pape and considered a benchmark producer of the region.  Pegau is justifiably ranked among the greatest wines in the world.  In 2012, the Chateauneuf du Pape icons bought a property just a few miles from they make their benchmark wines and named it Chateau Pegau.  The property sits in the prime spot in the Cotes du Rhone.  The wines are emphatically not Chateauneuf du Pape, nor are they priced that way.  However, the yields have been kept to the absurdly low limits permitted in Chateauneuf and the wines have all the density of that great appellation.  Chateau Pegau wines are loaded with classic Cotes du Rhone fruit and spice.  They truly deliver, showcasing the estate's excellent terroir with the unmistakable imprint of Pegau.  The 2020 Chateau Pegau Cuvee Maclura Cotes du Rhone is balanced and delicious.  It's round and juicy with a vivid finish.  This charming red blend has a bright core of cherries, berries, cassis, warm earth, sweet baking spices, dried herbs and an undertone of chocolate on the finish.  It's medium bodied with finely grained tannins and an elegant, supple mouthfeel.  Enjoy!

James Suckling, 92 Points

"A pretty complex nose of cherries, berries, dried herbs, cola and baking spices. It’s medium-bodied with finely grained tannins. Round and juicy with a bright core of cherries and some chocolate undertones towards the finish. Balanced and delicious with a vivid finish. Drink or hold."

Winemaker Notes:

"Born under an Osage orange tree, the Cuvée Maclura Côtes du Rhône calls for the greediness of the fruit revealing a blend of spices with delicate tannins. Designed with respect for the traditions of the south, this cuvée is like their grandmothers’ cuisine, generous and full of life.  A deep clear red. On the nose, pure blackcurrant and licorice. An elegant supple mouthfeel."
