Cairanne is a small village located in Southern Rhone.  It only officially assumed AOC status in 2016 making it the youngest cru in the Rhone Valley.  AOC status hadn't been granted to a village since Rasteau in 2010.  It's among the most underrated and overlooked villages in Rhone, but has become increasingly recognized for its quality and outstanding values.  James Molesworth of Wine Spectator stated "the Southern Rhône is one of the most consistent wine regions in the world quality-wise. While there are over a dozen villages . . . Cairanne is arguably the best, with red and black fruit flavors typically offset by a racy graphite edge.”  Cairanne is unquestionably the source of some of the best wines in the Southern Rhone.  If you want high class, classic Rhone reds, Cairanne is where it's at.  Guillaume Gonnet is dynamic young Rhone vintner whose family estate is Domaine Fort de Michelle.  This label comes from a side project of Gonnet's in collaboration with his wife. It's their dream to explore the potential of Southern Rhone grape varieties. His philosophy is produce wines with minimal intervention in order to present the perfect purity of his terroir.  The 2019 Guillaume Gonnet Le Brave Cairanne is smooth, rich and silky.  It has notes of dark plum, blackberry, tobacco, and herbs.  It has great balance and a velvety texture.  This is a great example of Cairanne.  Enjoy!

Wine Spectator, 92 Points

"Ripe and focused, with a core of dark plum and blackberry fruit supported by a well-embedded graphite spine, ending with tobacco and warm earth accents through the finish. Solid. Grenache and Syrah. Drink now through 2026. 1,000 cases made, 700 cases imported."

Winemaker Notes:

"Sappy ripe red fruits in the nose with garrigue notes. In the mouth the wine presents plush soft boysenberry fruit, tons of garrigue, and hints of mint, anise and smoke; a pure velvety texture. Minerality and soil components emerge on the finish to create great balance and structure. A great example of Cairanne."
