Winemaker Notes:
"We first tried Sagrantino while visiting our friend Don Angelo in Umbria, Italy. Since that first taste, we have become obsessed with the grape. We planted the Sagrantino block in Dry Creek Valley with bud wood obtained from the University of California Davis.
Sagrantino grown here boasts much of the same qualities as its Italian siblings including rich tannins, intense earthy aromas and ripe dark fruit flavors. Initial aromas of dried cherry that develop into more complex aromas of raspberry, leather, dried rose petals, dried figs and cocoa. On the palate the wine opens almost immediately with assertive chalky tannins very characteristic of the Sagrantino grape. The tannins support the dark berry fruit with elements of ripe figs and bitter almond cookies."
