"Deep, rich and autumnal, the 2016 Perricone Njuro mixes exotic brown spice with black currants, clove, licorice and fresh mint. This is velvety in texture yet lifted in feel, with saturating notes of raspberry and tart cherries excited by bracing acidity. Youthfully dense and poised, the Njuro isn’t quite ready to show all of its charms, finishing with grippy tannins under a violet-tinged air of berries and sweet minerals. Choosing between this and the sultry 2015 tasted alongside it is like splitting hairs; ultimately, the 2016 is the long-distance runner of the pair."
Winemaker Notes:
"Produced exclusively from the Perricone grape, also known in local dialect as “njuro cane” (the black dog); vineyards are farmed organically and grapes are harvested manually, with harvest usually taking place in October; fermentation occurs over two to three weeks with indigenous yeasts and minimal or no use of sulfur and without temperature control; the wine is neither fined nor filtered before bottling. This is a gutsy but elegant wine, not ferocious by any means, with gentle tannins and a slight fade to its red color."
Alcohol: 13.5%
