"This parcel within the Basarin cru in Neive, planted on clay and sandstone soils, is particularly prized by the Giacosa family. The nose is enchanting, crystalline and floral, with raspberry fruit in the background. It's supple and graceful rather than powerful, yet the underlying tannins are ripe and give structure without robbing the wine of its lightness of touch. It has good acidity and length, showing the charm that should be part of the Barbaresco profile."

"Ripe strawberries and spices, such as cloves, on the nose, as well as some bark. A red with full body, ripe fruit and polished tannins. Hints of cedar and sandalwood to the fruit. Tight now, but shows some pretty fruit and crafting."

"Here's a Barbaresco from one of the prettiest vineyard sites in the appellation, with near 360-degree views of the surrounding hillsides. The Basarin vineyard always catches those last fading beams of golden sunlight as the day comes to a close. The soils are of marine origin. The 2016 Barbaresco Basarin Vigna Gianmaté offers a particularly savory and earthy bouquet with notes of dusty soil followed by wet stone and grilled herb. The wine does not lack for fruit, as generous aromas of black cherry and blackberry add softness and aromatic intensity. The tannins stand out here for their firmness and tightness. I imagine that a rare steak filet with a wild mushroom gravy would be perfect for this one."

"The 2016 Barbaresco Basarin Vigna Gianmaté is a very pretty wine. Sweet red cherry, plum, mint, earthiness, spice and rose petal are front and center in this pliant, supple and totally inviting Barbaresco from F.lli Giacosa. Floral, light on its feet and gracious, the 2016 has a lot to offer. Sweet floral and savory notes round out this lithe, mid-weight Barbaresco nicely."
