Vinous, 92 Points

"Lurid ruby-red. Ripe red and dark berries on the deeply perfumed nose, along with a suggestion of succulent flowers. Sappy, mineral-tinged black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors flesh out and become sweeter with air while maintaining urgency. Rich but energetic, finishing very long and appealingly sweet, with repeating dark berry character; supple, harmonious tannins lend gentle grip. This vintage's bottling is quite a bit richer than I usually expect from the Chanrions but that's the vintage for you."

Wine & Spirits, 92 Points

"Nicole Chanrion worked with her father before taking over her family’s domaine in 1988; she continues to farm her 16 acres of vines entirely on her own. She grows her gamay in blue schist and ferments it as whole clusters, ages it in oak foudres and bottles it unfiltered. Her 2015 is concentrated, a long-lived Beaujolais completely saturated with cool spice and earthiness. The tannins feel fresh and taste purple, as if layered directly into the dry fruit flavors, leaving a briskness that lasts."

Decanter, 90 Points

"Trained as an oenologist in Beaune followed by a brief internship in California, Nicole Chanrion returned to her roots in Beaujolais and took over the 6.5 hectare domaine from her father in 1988. She works almost entirely by herself, from tending the vineyards and working in the winery, to bottling and selling her wines. She follows traditional methods, such as whole bunch fermentation, ageing in large oak foudres, and bottling without filtration. This offering is very juicy and bright with pure red cherry and floral aromas. The palate is robust, demonstrating power and depth. A great foody wine."
