Nebbiolo, synonymous with the long-lived wines of Italy's Piedmont region, is considered one of the world's greatest grapes.  While Barolo may be Nebbiolo's greatest expression, Langhe Nebbiolo is a great alternative.  Most Barolo producers also make a Langhe Nebbiolo affectionately referred to as "Baby Barolo" or "Bargain Barolo".  It's made from the same grape in the same place but unlike its superstar counterparts, it's incredible inexpensive.  Langhe Nebbiolo is fresher, fruitier and styled to be consumed in its youth.  They're usually delicious, softer, more accessible than Barolo, ready to drink now and far more affordable.  The Veglio family has been dedicated to working the land since the early 1900s.  In the 1960s, they purchased their first vineyard and started making wine under their own name using native Langhe grapes - above all Nebbiolo.  The Veglio family believes in making balanced wines that are intriguing, complex, clean, approachable and don't take years to develop.  Wine critic Antonio Galloni stated, "The Veglio style emphasizes texture and soft fruit which makes the wines excellent early."  The 2019 Mauro Veglio Langhe Nebbiolo Angelo is fruity, fresh and bursting with flavor.  It expresses notes of wild cherry, rose, crushed limestone, dark earth, rose hip, and raspberry. Its finish is long, supple, and polished, with chewy, crunchy tannins that underscore the core of vibrant red fruit. A great wine for an excellent value.  Enjoy!

Wine Advocate, 91 Points

"The Mauro Veglio 2019 Langhe Nebbiolo Angelo pours from the bottle with a luminous garnet color with bright ruby highlights. The bouquet is fruity and lifted with notes of wild cherry and rose, but you also sense crushed limestone and dusty ash. This is a lean and compact wine that offers a long and polished close and some bright and lifted intensity overall. While a little unorthodox, you might even try this Nebbiolo with some crudité and the classic Piemontese garlic dip called bagna cauda. Some 20,000 bottles were made."

Jancis Robinson,

"Just mid ruby with bright orange tinges. Spicy, peppery sweet red-fruit nose with hints of dark earth, moss and oatmeal. Sappy, crunchy red fruit with soft, chewy tannins. Long and supple and with a tactile, tannic finish. A great wine for a fair price."

Winemaker Notes:

"This Nebbiolo is made with delicate grapes that come from our youngest and most vigorous vineyards in the townships of La Morra and Monforte d’Alba, as well as Roero. The grapes are vinified together and undergo a brief fermentation to highlight their excellent fruity and fresh notes.  The color is an intense ruby red with violet reflections.  The bouquet is fresh, floral, and fruity, with distinct notes of rose hip, marasca cherry, and delicate scents of raspberry.  Vinous with incredible freshness and light, delicate tannins. Fine, balanced body with good aromatic persistence."
