When people talk seriously about "natural" wines, they talk about the organic wines of Mas de Gourgonnier.  They are pioneers in organic vineyard farming.  This family estate was one of the first officially certified organic wineries, back when such a practice was seen as foolish for vine growers trying to make a living.  The vineyards of Mas de Gourgonnier make up a mini-paradise.  You’ll find a direct, unadulterated connection between the land and each bottle—flowering rosemary, wild sage and juniper plus the mountain freshness of regional “mistral” are all echoed in the estate’s wines.  Each wine is Provence in a bottle and all the red wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered.  The purity of focus and flavor make Mas de Gourgonnier one of the bedrock estates in Southern France and one that has few peers.  Typically this wine is offered in a traditional Normandy “Calvados” shape that only Gourgonnier uses, but because of the war in Ukraine, there was a glass shortage in Europe and they were forced to change the bottle design.  This is why we were able to get this hugely popular red at such a great deal.  The 2021 Mas de Gourgonnier Les Baux de Provence Red is an unbelievably great-value red and a crowd favorite.  This is a richly flavored red with autumnal aromas.  On the nose there are notes of plush red/black fruits, peppery spice,  dark roses and Provencal garrigue.  It's silky and textured on the finish.  This red has flavors of black cherries, plums, pepper and ginger on the palate.  Few other Provencal reds can match the power and grace of this bottle.  Enjoy!
