For generations the name Thanisch has been synonymous with luxurious white wines from the Mosel region of Germany.  The Thanisch family has cultivated wine since the year 1636 and can look back on a history covering almost 400 years.  Today the estate is run as a family business by the 11th generation, of which the last four generations were women.  The Thanisch family is one of the preeminent producers in Germany and part owner of the world renowned "Doctor" vineyard that has the distinction of being the most valuable and famous vineyard in Germany.  Dedicated exclusively to Riesling, the estate prides itself on making unique wines with a light, elegant style combined with deep complexity.  They make some of the best Mosel Rieslings you'll find.  The 2022 Wwe Dr. H. Thanisch Bernkastel-Kues Riesling Alte Reben is attractive and complex with a juicy lemon-lime profile.  It has a substantial, finely chiseled dry finish.  This Riesling is juicy, racy and elegant with an animating presence on the palate and a long, impressive finish.  It has notes of grapefruit, vineyard peach, green apple, Amalfi lemon, slate, fresh herbs, elderflower blossom and wild berries.  It's a well-structured and beautifully balanced with so much minerality.  Enjoy!

James Suckling, 93 Points

"Attractive and rather complex nose of fresh herbs and wild berries. Medium-bodied with finely-nuanced stone fruits and an elegant structure that carries through the long, beautifully balanced dry finish. From 25- to 35-year-old vines. Drink or hold. Screw cap."

Vinous, 90 Points

"The 2022 Riesling Bernkastel-Kues Alte Reben was first made in 2018; previously, there had only been estate Riesling and the single-site wines, so a village wine was missing.  The decision was to create a ’dry style’ Riesling from 25-30-year-old vines but not make it necessarily legally dry.  In 2022, it ended up with 11g/L of residual sweetness, fermented spontaneously in stainless steel.  The nose has a touch of slate spice before lemony notions hit.  The palate is all green apple crunch, lightness and slenderness.  Green freshness tingles on the slender palate with a core of riper Amalfi lemon.  The finish still comes across as dry since there are 8.5g/L of acidity. (Dry)"

Wine Spectator, 90 Points

"Offers a juicy lemon-lime profile, with elderflower blossom notes that turn racy on the
palate, bumping up against a firm wall of crushed slate. Reveals pithy white grapefruit accents that wash over the substantial, finely chiseled, dry finish. Drink now through."  2032."

Winemaker Notes:

"The wine offers a complex nose of grapefruit, vineyard peach and slate. Juicy and elegant it has an animating presence on the palate with a lot of minerality. Impressing the long finish. A well-structured Riesling with so much minerality!"
