Joey Tensley is a master of Syrah and Colson Canyon is his signature site.  Tensley Wines was founded in 1998 with the goal of starting a well-priced, Syrah-driven brand that let the unique vineyards of Santa Barbara speak for themselves.  The wine press started to take notice in 2001.  Wine critics say that Tensley wines flirt with perfection.  Tensley has a 100 point score to his name and Robert Parker called the Colson Canyon Syrah, "one of the finest Syrahs being produced on California’s Central Coast.”  He obtained cult status with his impressive four year streak of making Wine Spectator's Top 100.  He's been in the upper echelon of California winemaking for two decades.  Jeb Dunnuck states Tensley Syrahs are "dollar for dollar . . . some of the greatest wines out there". The Colson Canyon Syrah is the standard bearer of Tensley's unmatched style.  It's also one of the best red wine values in California.  If a wine with this pedigree and praise said Napa Cab on the label, it would cost $200.  Tensley wines are California wines at its finest with an unfathomable quality-to-price ratio.  The 2021 Tensley Colson Canyon Vineyard Syrah is a blockbuster with tremendous character.  It's medium to full-bodied and powerful with terrific tannins and good acidity.  It has notes of jammy blueberries, black cherry, black currants, raspberry, violets, black pepper and a touch of vanilla on the long finish.  This Syrah is delicious now, but will also age beautifully.  Enjoy!

Vinous, 94-96 Points

"The 2021 Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard is one of the highlights among the 2021s I tasted from Joey Tensley. Vibrant and driving in feel, the Colson Syrah is endowed with tremendous character. Blue/purplish fruit, gravel, incense, menthol and lavender all take shape as the 2021 shows off its striking beauty. There is so much to look forward to."

Jeb Dunnuck, 93-95+ Points

"From a site located in the hills above Los Olivos, the 2021 Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard gives up a dense purple hue as well as notes of jammy blueberries, black cherry liqueur, candied violets, and black pepper. This is a concentrated, medium to full-bodied, powerful Syrah that has terrific tannins as well as good acidity."

Winemaker Notes:

"Coming from one of the coolest vintage in a decade the wine has a serious freshness. With that said the extremely low yields of 1.7 ton per acre the texture is what the wine is all about. When you put your nose in the glass think of cracked pepper, black currant and raspberry with a touch of vanilla on the finish. The finish will last a long time from the high level of acid and tannin. Drink now, but probably best to wait a few years and for those who like aged wines don’t touch for 15-20 years!"
