"An elegant wine, with an almost crunchy, bright pomegranate and red cherry fruit touched with floral notes. The texture is light and fresh, but not lacking substance. This delightful wine is produced from the 0.36ha of Pinot planted in Monthélie in the lieux-dits Les Jouènes and Les Gamets. The fruit is all destemmed and cold soaked before fermentation in vat."
Burghound,
"Pretty, fresh and earthy aromas include those of various red berries and a hint of poached plum. There is excellent vibrancy to the delicious middle weight flavors that possess solid depth and persistence on the mildly rustic finale. This is really quite good for what it is and a wine that should repay a few years of keeping."
From the Importer:
"One of the rare red wines to emerge from the Roulot cellars, the Monthelie comes from two parcels of roughly 40-year-old vines situated between the villages of Monthelie and Auxey-Duresses. The fruit is entirely destemmed before a fermentation lasting twelve days, then one year aging in barrels with a small percentage of new oak. As with the domaine's whites, there is beautiful purity and restraint, with low extraction and lovely aromatic finesse. With floral notes and bright red fruit, it is elegant enough to be enjoyed now, but can also be cellared for several years."
